About PRS Guitars
The many models of PRS Guitars are designed so that every player
can find the one that's right for his/her style.
The first to appear in 1985 was the PRS Custom 24. Featuring a 2
octave low action neck, patented tremelo system, custom designed
pickups, and a unique switching system this guitar became an
immediate hit and set a new level of quality for the industry. The PRS
Custom 24 is a very versatile instrument which is especially well
suited to the modern player. The five way rotary switch has 2
humbucker and 3 tapped positions which offer a wide range of sounds
from super clean to hi gain agressive.
The next variation of the PRS Custom was the Custom 22. By
removing the final two frets the rhythm pickup could be placed in a
position similar to that of the vintage Strats and Les Pauls thus giving
the guitar a a warmer, rounder sound. The PRS Custom 22 also
introduced several other features including the option of a fatter
neck and a stop tail bridge for those players who didn't need a tremelo
bridge. New pickups with a fatter tone were also introduced to
enhance the warm sound of the Custom 22.
The PRS McCarty was introduced a while later as a variation on the
Custom 22. Named for Ted McCarty, who was president of Gibson
during their golden era of the 50's and early 60's, the McCarty model
was built due to the demand of many players for an even more vintage
sounding guitar that had the playability and high quality of a PRS Guitars
guitar. The PRS McCarty features an east coast maple top which has
a different density than the maple on other PRS Guitars models and makes a
"woodier sound". A steeper headstock angle, thicker body, and
McCarty model pickups with a 3 way toggle and coil tap help create a
sound that's close to your vintage favorites but more versatile.
In recent years PRS has issued Hollow body models aimed for the
jazz player such as the Hollow 1, Hollow 2 and the Hollow
Spruce. These PRS guitars have the advantage of creating the tone of
a large hollow guitar in a more comfortable size. Also available as an
option on any PRS Hollow Body guitar is the exclusive PRS Guitars piezo bridge that
allows your guitar sound like an electric acoustic flat top.
